Payments · Australia / Circular Economy Systems
A multi-cloud platform for a recycling payments company.
Circular Economy Systems (CES) makes payment software for drink-container recycling schemes. Quisonix runs DevOps and platform engineering for CES.
The problem
CES ran monolithic applications on Docker Swarm, which made them hard to scale, monitor and change safely.
What we did
- Broke the monoliths into microservices and set up several Kubernetes clusters, starting on Oracle Cloud (OKE).
- Moved the microservices to AWS (EKS with Karpenter autoscaling, managed databases and Kafka), with a private link between the clouds.
- Looked after the Oracle side too: databases, identity, integration and APEX.
- Now moving what is left on Oracle Cloud to Azure, including identity and Power Apps.
- Added central logging, metrics and alerts, and released every change through GitOps.
- Kept secrets in Vault and connected the clouds over a private network.
What changed
- Fewer deployment errors, because every release follows the same standard workflow.
- Services scale on their own and recover from failures without manual work.
- Better reliability and visibility across all three clouds.
- A stronger compliance position, with security, auditing and risk controls built into the platform.
- Less manual operations work.
